Photo taken in front of Arthur Bourne's home in 1934.
Our recent trip to the San
Marino Motor Classic was a homecoming event. Arthur Bourne, original owner
of the car, owned several properties in southern California, including this
custom house designed by Wallace Neff for Bourne in 1925. Until recently,
we had no idea where the photo was taken or by whom. We still don't know
who took the picture, but thanks to Joe Auch, who took the time to track down
Bourne's various addresses, we now know where it was taken. Since so
little of the house, which is enormous, is visible in the photo, we knew finding
it would be difficult. Seventy eight years is a long time and trees now
obscure almost all of the portion of the house seen in the 1934 photo. But
after driving up and down Lombardy Road two or three times, we finally looked in
the right direction at the right time. After the show, we returned
with the car and took several pictures, including this reenactment photo:
Photo taken in the same perspective as the 1934 photo on June 10, 2012.
